social issues add questions of how the form and function can aid the spirit of the individual. the following projects were the main focal points:
refugee centre:
the refugee centre introduces immigrants to canada. The entry / learning area is housed in the renovated electrical sub-station which used to supply all the power for hull, quebec. refugees are brought across a bridge at the top level where they look down at the learing areas as well as the exposed candian bedrock which supports the bridges' structure.
the main turbine tower (a glass enclosed tower which can be added onto - shown below) houses the library of artifacts (signatures, stories of hardships, memories of the refugee). protected by these buildings is the main building where the refugees can stay while they learn about canada. this building (shown below) is anchored on either end by the communal spaces - the lounge and the sauna / showers - while the residences are suspended over the stream which takes their dreams in the night and blend them into the rivers of dreams of canada.
low cost housing competition

the low cost housing competition was an investigation into space managment as well as creating a structure (in this case the structural fins) which would allow one to easily add onto the house.
the winning design was a basic rectangular box-style house which pushed no design boundaries and thus seemed their safest choice...
