April-May 2006 +
...
A major kitchen renovation took most of the months of April and May...
Still have the floors to do... Puck lights... and other odds and ends.
The renovation's main feature is the newopening through to the living
room... through which you can see the forest... so, breakfasts at the
counter will be nice.
As well, at christmas, you'll be able to see the christmas tree through
there.

Design and production, development permit and working drawings. Basically
the whole gamut of the architectural profession.
The computer program of choice here was MiniCAD. The program is
used for both its 2D and 3D capabilities as well as its abilities of having
worksheets linked directly to the drawings. Also, objects/entities are
both class and layer linked so more than one drawing can easily be constructed
from one simple plan or 3D model drawing.
(1996
- 1998) Gateway Architecture
Intern Architect
Vancouver, British Columbia
A small office which allowed hands-on experience of all aspects of the
profession including: project analysis, feasability studies, conceptual
layouts, design and working drawing details.
A proficiency in ArchiCAD is the main computer experience gained, as well
as continued knowledge/ improvment in Site/Office computer set-up, managment
and maintanance of Macintosh computer systems.
(1996
- 1998) Creative DesignWorks

Computer experience gained was in conjunction with Gateway Architecture.
Other experience gained was in Contract management and Design/Build as
a number of projects placed us as both designer and Contractor.

A contract position to provide a building permit set for a multi-family
residential unit. Coordination of consultants, client consultation and
detail design were also required.
This project was manually drafted. Area calculations and layouts for real
estate promotion purposes were produced on MiniCAD.
(1993 - 1995 ) The Kasian Kennedy Design
Partnership
Intern Architect

A large firm which allowed participation and education in many aspects
of the architectural profession. Experience here was gained in the design
of a variety of building types and the production of the complete range
of drawing sets - Develpment Permit design sets, Building Permit working

Smart" book (1996).
(Summers '92 - '93 ) The Design Clinic
Draftsperson / Table Leader
Ottawa, Ontario
An organisation of architectural students providing drafting and
design services to the general public. This single group of approximately
20
students is broken down into "Table" Leaders and those on those
"Tables". Table Leader Managed the client meetings, project
distribution and provided assistance to those students under their supervision
(Table).
Projects ranged from extensions to kitchens to provide breakfast rooms
to designs of entire houses. Clients were interviewed, problems/requests/desires
assessed, site visits carried out, and sets of drawings produced which
allowed the client to acquire city building permits.
(Summer '92) AECS
Consulting
Draftsperson / Designer
Ottawa, Ontario
Architectural and Space Planning drawings were produced using AutoCAD
r.12 on DOS & Windows machines. Site visits as well as drawing
production were part of this job. Also, concepts of Space Planning
were studied and
used.
Skills on AutoCAD were vastly improved at this employ as my employer was
not only a Beta Tester for AutoCAD but also an AutoCAD teacher for whom
I also assisted on a couple of AutoCAD courses.
(April-June '91,
May Dec. '90) Griffiths Rankin Cook Architects
Draftsperson
Ottawa, Ontario
AutoCAD release10 on DOS was the big standard at this time and its use
and understanding was my specialty here - construction drawings, perspectival,
plan, elevation, and detail drawings as well as the creation, set-up and
execution of programs and program aids for the office drafting computer
systems.
(April-June '90) Adjelian Allen Rubelli Engineers
Draftsperson
Ottawa, Ontario
Structural drawings were produced using AutoCAD r.9 & 10 on DOS
machines. This summer job was extremely benificial in learning how
to use the computer
(and program) in an office setup as well as understanding the role
of the Engineer in the building design process as well as the role
of structure
in the building itself.
